Academy Swim Team

The FAST, FUN & FRIENDLY swim team that trains at the Burnham-on-Sea Swim & Sports Academy and races in events throughout the country

The Academy Swim Team has been set up on the same professional standards and concepts as our award winning Swim Academy Program. Professional coaches (the best! proven international athletes who know what it takes mentally, physically and technically to reach each athletes chosen goals) have been employed, and extensive pool time allocated to each of the 8 squads in order to succeed.

We strive to ensure that each swimmer on the team receives the support and opportunities to take their talents as far as they want to take them in the world of competitive swimming or swimming based multi-sport activities such as Triathlon/Biathlon/Modern Pentathlon etc.

The Swim & Sports Academy has put extensive resources into the operational costs of getting the team launched and providing the platform for our swimmers to continue to grow and excel. The team today are already reaching phenomenal goals in the pool, excelling at county and regional level and performing outstandingly in the National Western League Division 1. We could not be prouder of the level of commitment, talent, motivation and the fantastic team spirit of our swimmers and supporters.

Brief History Of The Team

Established Oct 1st, 2013

The Burnham-on-Sea Swim & Sports Academy was formed in 2008 to ensure that the formerly run council pool (Burnham pool) was not demolished for flats, but remained as a swimming pool for the community of Burnham-on-Sea and the surrounding Locale. The cornerstone of keeping the pool “afloat” was the launch of the Burnham-on-Sea Swim Academy, a swim school catering for swimmers from Ducklings to Stage 10.

In 2012 the Burnham-on-Sea Swim Academy was awarded the prestigious title of the Best Learn to Swim School in the country from the Amateur Swimming Association.

In 2013, with so many of our talented Swim Academy students having graduated through the stages, and with no club in training at the Swim & Sports Academy pool it was decided to extend the award winning Swim Academy into the world of competitive swimming. In order to do this however we needed to form a “stand-alone” club which had to be formally constituted and set up under ASA rules and regulations and a committee needed to be formed. (Unlike Triathlon or Running events – in order to compete in swimming meets, you must be a member of an ASA registered club, the club of which is governed by strict rules and regulations

The Academy Swim Team has been set up on the same professional standards and concepts as our award winning Swim Academy Program. Professional coaches (the best! proven international athletes who know what it takes mentally, physically and technically to reach each athletes chosen goals) have been employed, and extensive pool time allocated to each of the 3 squads (now 8 squads!) in order to succeed.
